MANDI
Deepak Sharma, the former president of the Mandi District Congress Committee, has been honored with the esteemed 'Best Social Worker Award' during a grand event held in the national capital, acknowledging his significant contributions to social welfare and community service.
The award was presented by renowned actress Zareen Khan, celebrating Sharma's lifelong commitment to aiding the underprivileged and his proactive role during natural disasters and the Covid-19 pandemic. The audience erupted in applause as his achievements were recognized, showcasing the community's admiration for his unwavering dedication.
A Legacy of Service
Sharma is well-known in Himachal Pradesh, especially in the Mandi district, for his grassroots initiatives. He has organized free eye camps, enabling numerous underprivileged individuals to receive necessary surgeries and treatments, and has coordinated ration distributions during the Covid-19 lockdown, consistently placing himself at the forefront of relief efforts.
During the height of the pandemic, he took it upon himself to ensure that stranded residents of Himachal Pradesh in other states were safely returned home, even covering the costs from his own funds.
Disaster Relief Initiatives
In 2023, when devastating floods struck Himachal Pradesh, Sharma, alongside an NGO, provided essential relief supplies such as tarpaulins, blankets, medicines, and mosquito nets to approximately 4,500 families affected by the disaster.
In 2025, when another calamity occurred, he was among the first responders, delivering urgent supplies to victims, further solidifying his reputation as a leader who acts decisively in times of need.
The Aashirwad Yatra
Sharma's connection with the community is also evident through his 'Aashirwad Yatra' across the Mandi Sadar Assembly constituency. This initiative allows him to engage with families directly, addressing their concerns and working towards effective solutions. Local residents view this yatra as a unique example of a political leader's sustained engagement beyond election cycles.
A Heartfelt Acceptance Speech
In his acceptance speech, Sharma dedicated the award to the people of Mandi and his supporters, stating, 'This honor is not mine alone. It belongs to the people of Mandi and to all my colleagues who stood by me in this journey of service. I see myself only as a medium. This award inspires me to serve with greater sincerity, honesty, and dedication.'
He emphasized his political philosophy, saying, 'For me, politics is not about power or position, but about service and sensitivity. Whether during the Covid crisis or the floods, my goal has always been to stand with people in their joys and sorrows. The love, trust, and blessings of the people are my true wealth.'
A Moment of Pride for Himachal Pradesh
Leaders and dignitaries at the event celebrated this recognition as a proud moment for Himachal Pradesh, particularly for Mandi district. They acknowledged that Sharma's work exemplifies true leadership, characterized by living among the people and serving them selflessly.
This award marks a significant milestone in his long journey of service and reinforces his status as one of the state's most dedicated social workers.
A Symbol of Dedication
For the residents of Mandi, Sharma's accolade transcends personal achievement; it embodies the district's values of compassion and resilience. By prioritizing welfare over politics, Deepak Sharma has established himself as a leader who merges activism with empathy.
As Mandi celebrates his accomplishment, the 'Best Social Worker Award' serves as a national acknowledgment of his unwavering commitment to social justice, humanitarian efforts, and people-centered leadership.
